The winning entry for graphic identity of Valencia’s annual festival of architecture is created by cutting a void in a shape of an empty slide frame that captures the views of the city architecture seen trough it. In this manner the logo becomes more than just a graphic sign – it becomes a simple device to experience architecture in a different and more focused way.

The concept is easily recognizable and easy to apply to different media.
Posters in a form of an empty slide frame can be successfully applied to exterior walls, and the cut out in the poster brings into focus the beauty and variety of architectural textures. Posters can also be mounted to become free standing panels that make the strong presence in the city and frame the views of the cityscape.
Leaflets are designed in the same manner, and the cut out logo stimulates the playful use – they become paper toy cameras with which the visitors can “take” very own snapshots of the city, a kind of snapshots that doesn’t get printed on paper, but imprinted in visitors’ memories.

Graphics and typography is simple in order not to distract the focus from what is being observed trough the cut out. They only serve to provide information, not to decorate, beause the real “star of the show” is the architectural environments and textures that are being seen trough.

All the printing is done as an affordable one-color print, and the color of choice is pantone cyan which is abstract enough to make the graphics and posters stand out, being radically different than any color found on local architecture, which makes the posters easily recognizable objects from far away. At the same time, this color matches perfectly any architectural color, because it takes inspiration from the intensely blue Valencian sky.

HK Land, a major development group in Hong Kong, approached Screampoint back in 2002 to develop a user friendly property management system with focus on the burning issue of keeping track of maintenance records for the seawater cooling system that had grown into a mountain of misplaced paper documents.

In only five weeks, our 2-person team managed to build a working prototype in which users could browse the virtual Hong Kong Central, and access any data by interacting with buildings and pipes in 3D. It was an instant success, and put into good use by the client.

More importantly, this project marked the beginning of the future 5D City development, where we had a chance for the first time to put our idea and vision of digital cities into action.

MOCAPE museum in Shenzhen is an urban icon designed to compromise the monumental aspirations of the program with the need to create a live public space well integrated into newly designed central axis of the city.
Monumentality is expressed by making a clear statement of basic elements of space, such as podium, roof, wall, and building core. Their composition is modern reinterpretation of a Chinese temple that is itself interpretation of the archetype of home, existential space that is connecting human and nature. As such, MOCAPE is intended to symbolize the home-temple of creative urban spirit.

Building interior is organized as a stack of huge column-free exhibition areas, with the private and administration zone in the back of the building. Dividing these two zones is the central core which comprises circulation, technical systems and main structure of the building, so the rest of the interior could remain clean.
Visitor access to exhibition areas is controlled by subway-like gates, and can be fully customized, so that visitors can purchase tickets to individual exhibitions or entire museum. Gate system is adopted to ease and make faster the circulation of expected huge number of visitors in a building size of almost one million square feet.

Magic Box is an art installation by artist Branko Pavic, conceived as a part of national exposition of Serbia at 2007’s <a href="http://www.pq.cz"target="_blank">Prague Quadrennial, the largest exhibition of scenography and theater architecture in the world.
Instead of Quadrennial’s traditional format of exhibiting the national’s theater production, Serbia was presented by the single original art work, which was also a place to host related events during the festival.
This installation marked a shift towards new tendencies, and contributed to a debate which eventually resulted in a change of the focus of the Quadrennial itself: it became The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, “with the goal of including a wider scope of artists disciplines, and genres, to break down the often imaginary differences between them.“

Client
The client is an eccentric doctor of acupuncture practicing in Belgrade, with years of training in China. That results in a specific mindset of mixed influences, oriental with local orthodox. Focused on nature, ecology and a healthy lifestyle, the doctor wanted a family house in natural settings which would be fully self-sustainable.

Site
The client had been searching for the perfect site for 5 years, and finally found it on a southern slope of mountain Avala, a popular weekend resort just a 20 minutes drive from the downtown Belgrade. The site features beautiful sloped lawn, ending up in a forest with a spring of fresh water, and offering tremendous views of the countryside

Brief
We were approached with an irrational design brief. The client showed us a few images for inspiration: a still from a 60ies Sci-Fi movie featuring a flying sorcerer of a kind, and an image of a turtle shell. The offered imagery displayed client’s personal preference towards organic shape for a house that he had supposedly been dreaming of for years.

Spirits
The client was largely influenced by feng-shui, which states that a healthy life is result of a balanced flow of life energy. Therefore he requested the position of the house on site to be determined by measuring the energy levels in the ground, while the layout would have to allow the energy to flow in an optimal way. Additionally, we calculated feng-shui tables for each member of the family to ensure the house -both the layout and the building materials- would comfort their personalities. In this effort we were supervised by a guest Feng-shui master from China.

Design
The house makes advantage of the slope to create a womb-like effect that client was apparently looking for. Living quarters open towards the south while the major part of the servicing areas in the north is tucked under ground. This gives overall impression of a safe shelter, and is also very cost-effective in terms of energy preservation. The total area under the roof is around 600sqm. Additionally, there’s a substantial part of the house completely under ground – a 200 sqm- large network of connection and evacuation tunnels.

Construction
House form is a complex digitally controlled nurbs surface, and it needed to be constantly checked against the available building technology. Given the very poor building practice in Serbia, methods like CNC manufacturing were out of the question, so we needed to turn to locally available knowledge. This resulted in a traditional concrete structure, whose complex shape was made possible only by fantastic dedication of contractors, who seen the house as a great challenge and found a great inner motivation to accomplish it.

Sustainability
House will employ several high- and low-tech sustainable solutions. Energy source will be combined on-site solar cells with windmills and geothermal pumps. HVAC system that will be applied is a very low-tech solution, a patent by an inventor from a local village based on a simple thermodynamics. On-site spring and the well will provide clean water, while waste water will be filtered and reused for gardening.

Security
As client was increasingly obsessed with security, the house transformed into a kind of fortress. All the openings can be sealed down and the house becomes impenetrable as a turtle shell. Moreover, extremely complex system of underground passages provides a very fast and secure evacuation from the house and from entire site into the woods, or into the underground bomb shelter.

Progress
Already 6th year in the construction, house structure and exterior is finished and interior currently under construction. The progress is slow as the design has been constantly modified during construction, and client and contractors were largely involved in design updates. And, above all, a special connection between a house and its owner was established – one in which a house is seen as a lifetime achievement, and therefore a constant work in progress.
